On 10 September 2015, ECRE, together with its partners, will launch the third Annual Report of the Asylum Information Database (AIDA) at the Residence Palace in Brussels’ European quarter. During the event, the Forum Réfugiés-Cosi, the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, the Greek Council for Refugees, and the Swiss Refugee Council will all give their perspectives on the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and the key challenges in their respective countries.
The increasing number of persons seeking international protection in Europe in the last year has tested the resilience of the EU’s common asylum policy in many respects and has once again provoked heated discussions at the EU level. Starting from a statistical analysis of main trends and patterns in the number of asylum applicants, recognition rates and main routes of entry into the EU, this annual report provides a critical analysis of recent debates and responses at EU level in the field of asylum and migration. In addition, the report highlights the increasingly important role of civil society organisations and volunteers in addressing crisis situations in addition to or in absence of adequate responses from the authorities.
