The Advanced ELENA Course on “Legal Avenues for Strengthening International Protection in Europe” will take place on Friday 17 November and Saturday 18 November 2017. The Course will be held in the Novotel Athens in Athens, Greece.
This year the ELENA Course aspires to provide an engaging forum for legal practitioners and decision makers to discuss, analyse and reflect upon the legal avenues that can be used in order to advance the rights of refugees. The course will focus on bringing asylum cases before the European Court of Human Rights, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the UN mechanisms, in order to advance the rights of those in need of international protection. It will also cover the implementation of ECtHR judgments, the role of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in asylum cases, and will explore the recent jurisprudence of European Courts in relation to international protection. Finally, three workshops will focus on challenging cases related to detention and access to asylum, transfers under the Dublin Regulation and children’s right to family life.
