Refugee Action

About us

Refugee Action has been a Member of ECRE since 1994. It is an independent national charity working with refugees and asylum seekers to build new lives in the UK.

Refugee Action was founded in 1981 with the aim to provide a new approach to the successful resettlement of refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. The charity works in close partnership with refugee communities and campaigns for the rights of refugees. It also advocates for change at both national and regional levels.

Asylum advice teams provide newly arrived asylum seekers and recognised refugees who need it, with a reception service designed to help improve access to mainstream services for asylum seekers and refugees across England. This includes helping people to access the asylum application process, housing, employment and healthcare, as well as help coping with more specific issues such as domestic abuse, racial harassment and destitution. The advice teams also offer advocacy services.

Refugee Action’s community development services provide assistance aimed at the long term settlement and integration of refugees into British society. To this end, it supports refugee community organisations through training and assistance such as for example accessing funds, and runs projects and activities on gender, oral history and employment. The organisation also does some work on assisted voluntary return programmes, offering impartial advice to asylum seekers who are considering that option.
